We are excited to share that several new services in the AWS GovCloud (US) Region have successfully secured Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program (FedRAMP) High authorizations. This achievement, effective immediately, was granted by the FedRAMP Joint Authorization Board (JAB), allowing federal and commercial customers to process and store critical workloads within the AWS GovCloud (US) Region’s secure environment, handling data at the high impact level.

The newly authorized services under FedRAMP High include a diverse range of solutions such as databases, storage options, data warehousing, security measures, and configuration automation tools. These offerings are designed to enhance your data management capabilities in the cloud. For instance, with AWS CloudFormation, you can automate the deployment of AWS resources, while AWS Key Management Service (KMS) allows for the creation and control of encryption keys to safeguard your data. Additionally, Amazon Redshift lets you cost-effectively analyze your data using existing business intelligence tools, automating routine tasks for managing and scaling your data warehouse.

Our federal and commercial customers can now utilize our FedRAMP P-ATO to access these services:

  • CloudFormation: Simplifying the management of related AWS resources, CloudFormation enables developers and system administrators to provision and update resources in a predictable manner. You can use sample templates or create custom ones to define the necessary AWS resources and their dependencies.
  • Amazon DynamoDB: A robust NoSQL database service offering consistent, low-latency performance, DynamoDB is fully managed and supports both document and key-value store models.
  • Amazon EMR: This managed Hadoop framework efficiently processes large datasets across scalable Amazon EC2 instances. EMR can also run popular frameworks like Apache Spark and HBase, integrating seamlessly with other AWS data stores such as Amazon S3.
  • Amazon Glacier: A secure and cost-effective cloud storage service for archiving and long-term backups, Amazon Glacier allows customers to store data at a rate as low as $0.004 per gigabyte per month, providing significant savings over traditional on-premises solutions.
  • KMS: This service simplifies the management of encryption keys, ensuring data security through the use of Hardware Security Modules (HSMs). Integrated with other AWS offerings, KMS aids in meeting regulatory compliance by providing logs of key usage.
  • Redshift: A fully managed data warehouse solution that simplifies the analysis of vast amounts of data, enabling the use of existing business intelligence tools.
  • Amazon Simple Notification Service (SNS): A fast and flexible notification service that facilitates both individual and bulk message delivery, making it easy to communicate with mobile users, email recipients, and other services.
  • Amazon Simple Queue Service (SQS): This fully-managed message queuing service ensures reliable communication among distributed software components and microservices, supporting high volumes without losing messages.
  • Amazon Simple Workflow Service (SWF): SWF helps developers orchestrate background jobs with parallel or sequential steps, serving as a fully managed task coordinator in the cloud.

AWS collaborates closely with the FedRAMP Program Management Office (PMO), the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), and various federal compliance entities to ensure the delivery of advanced technology in a secure manner. Our commitment to expanding the scope of authorized services remains steadfast, ensuring that AWS GovCloud (US) continues to meet the needs of government customers with an extensive mix of functionality and security.
